Who are we?



We are a family, Monique, Robert and our three children: Thijs, Sarah and Eva. We used to work abroad as engineers for development aid projects. As students Robert worked in Sri Lanka and Pakistan for his thesis and practical period, while Monique choose India and Argentina. As a family we lived in an oasis in Egypt, we settled in the African bush in Tanzania, to leave it again for Zimbabwe.

As the children grew older, we went to look for a place to settle down. This was not that easy as having lived in the most amazing places, doing very satisfying work, we wanted our children to still have the space, the nature, the freedom, they grew up with and for ourselves a job which always has new challenges. We finally found it in Le Marche.

We bought the farmhouse and started renovating it. After two years, Azienda Cerqueto was nearly finished. In between taking down the house, to rebuild it again, Robert got asked to work for an estate agent and Monique set up Le Marche Explorer and got asked to manage renovation projects for other foreigners that bought a property here. We slowly could grow into our new jobs, finishing off our own renovation project and preparing it to receive guests.

For most of the properties you will meet us, when you come to pick up the key. At Azienda Cerqueto we live, so there we will regularly see each other. During your stay we are always available for you, would you need us; to book a restaurant, to give advice or in case of emergencies. Come and stay in Le Marche and enjoy a wonderful holiday.
